State Legislators Rally Around Medical Data Technology

Law360, New York (August 17, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Policy makers in the United States have stepped up their support for implementing health information technology and information exchange, introducing more than 100 bills within the last two years, according to a report by a nonprofit organization.

eHealth Initiative reported that 38 state legislatures have proposed 121 bills—more than half of which were introduced in the first seven months of this year—that endorsed information technology as a way to enhance the quality, safety and efficiency of health care.
