Ore. Joins Suit Against DOE Over Hanford Cleanup

Law360, New York (February 27, 2009, 12:00 AM EST) -- The state of Oregon has intervened in a lawsuit launched by the state of Washington against the U.S. Department of Energy alleging that the agency's sluggish cleanup of 53 million gallons of radioactive waste from Hanford Nuclear Reservation is threatening the public health.

Oregon moved to intervene in the suit Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, contending that contamination from the site could hurt its residents because the Columbia River flows past Hanford and into Oregon.
