$160M Awarded In Patent Suit Vs. Microsoft, Autodesk

Law360, New York (August 22, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Microsoft Corp. is vowing to appeal after a federal judge in Texas entered a final judgment awarding a small company more than $160 million and affirming a jury verdict holding that Microsoft and Autodesk Inc. infringed two patents related to protecting software against unauthorized use.

U.S. District Judge Leonard Davis entered the judgment against Microsoft and Autodesk Friday, upholding an April 19 jury verdict awarding Michigan-based z4 Technologies Inc. $115 million in actual damages from Microsoft and $18 million from Autodesk, along with prejudgment interest....
