Swedish Shipper Fined $1M In Illegal Dumping Case

Law360, New York (March 11, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Swedish shipping company Holy House Shipper AB has been fined $1 million for keeping inaccurate oil records in an alleged attempt to hide illegal dumping during a voyage between Los Angeles and Chile, federal prosecutors said.

Judge Jerome B. Simandle of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey on Tuesday also ordered the company to serve three years of probation and pay an additional $400,000 for community service projects, the U.S. Department of Justice said.
