ON Semiconductor, Samsung Settle DRAM Duel

Law360, New York (March 11, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Familiar foes ON Semiconductor Corp. and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. have made peace and agreed to settle a pair of suits over ON’s patents for dynamic random access memory technology.

Under a confidential settlement, the rival semiconductor companies have cross-licensed their respective patent portfolios for a “significant term of years,” according to ON’s press release.

Having resolved their differences, settling both Samsung’s 2006 suit to invalidate three ON patents and the patent holders’ subsequent 2007 infringement action, each side will bear its own costs and attorneys’...
