House Bill Seeks To Block Livestock Emissions Tax

Law360, New York (March 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Less than a week after a similar bill was introduced in the U.S. Senate, Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, D-Neb., on Thursday introduced legislation that would prevent federal agencies and officials from imposing fees or taxes on the greenhouse gases emitted by livestock.

The bill, which has been referred to the U.S. House of Representatives' Ways and Means Committee, would ban fines “on gaseous emissions emitted directly by livestock” in an effort to reduce the effect that greenhouse gas emissions have on climate change.
