Intel Says AMD Spinoff Violates Deal

Law360, New York (March 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Intel Corp. has informed rival Advanced Micro Devices Inc. that it is terminating a long-standing cross-license agreement between the two companies, claiming that AMD's plan to spin off its manufacturing operations violates the deal.

Intel told AMD in a letter that it believes AMD has violated the 2001 agreement by creating Globalfoundries, a new chip-manufacturing spinoff, AMD revealed in an 8-K filing Monday with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Intel has said it will terminate AMD's rights and licenses under the agreement in 60 days...
