Obama Moves To Bolster Food Safety Oversight

Law360, New York (March 17, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- President Obama has unveiled a series of measures he says will help ensure the safety of the nation's food supply, including creating a food safety working group and tapping two people to head up the beleaguered U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

In his weekly radio address Saturday, the president announced the appointments of former New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg as commissioner of the FDA and Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Baltimore's health commissioner, as the agency's principal deputy commissioner.
