Retired Latham Partner Hayes OK'd For DOI Post

Law360, New York (March 18, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A U.S. Senate committee has approved former Latham & Watkins LLP partner David J. Hayes for a top post at the U.S. Department of the Interior, despite reservations from Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., over Hayes' lobbying activities and derisive comments about Ronald Reagan.

On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources approved Hayes with a 17-5 vote to be deputy secretary of the interior, paving the way for a full Senate vote on the confirmation.
