Pelosi, AG Mull Antitrust Exemptions For Newspapers

Law360, New York (March 19, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- As the newspaper industry, walloped by the economic downturn, tries to cope with declining readership, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder said he is considering a request from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to amend antitrust provisions for newspapers.

In a press conference Wednesday, Holder said the U.S. Department of Justice was sympathetic to the newspaper industry's recent plight and indicated he would be willing to look into recommendations that the DOJ revamp laws governing the consolidation of newspapers' business operations.
