Taiwan TSMC Sues China SMIC For Agreement Breach

Law360, New York (August 28, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The battle between China and Taiwan in the realm of intellectual property continued on Monday when Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. announced that it had filed a new lawsuit against Chinese rival Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp.

TSMC, the world’s top contact chip maker, said in a filing in the U.S. California State Superior Court that SMIC had violated a patent deal set last year. It filed suit against the China-based company’s Shanghai, Beijing and U.S. operations.
