Airlines Come Out Against Alliance Oversight Bill

Law360, New York (March 24, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The airline industry has asked the Obama administration to oppose a bill recently introduced in Congress that calls for tougher antitrust scrutiny of international alliances between airlines.

In a statement Monday, the Air Transport Association of America, an industry trade group, said the legislation introduced by Rep. James L. Oberstar, D-Minn. “could destroy important service and public benefits such as competitive fares and new routes by withdrawing previously granted rights for carriers to participate in alliances.”
