Google Handed Setbacks In Toolbar Patent Spat

Law360, New York (March 25, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A judge has issued a claims construction ruling against Google Inc. and also shot down its motion for partial summary judgment in a patent infringement suit involving its Toolbar application.

In the claims construction matter, Google proposed that the term “identifier” be construed as a “database entry which identifies a specific piece of intellectual property.”

But the plaintiff, patent-holding company Aloft Media LLC, countered that no construction was necessary because the plain meaning of the term “identifier” was easily understood.
