Airline, Health Care Lawsuits Fuel Class Action Surge

Law360, New York (August 30, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An onslaught of litigation against the airline and health care industries has led to a large jump in antitrust class actions, our survey of court dockets shows.

Between July 2005 and July 2006, some industries saw the number of such lawsuits balloon by as much as 320%, according to our survey. And with 516 antitrust class actions filed overall during that time period—as opposed to 284 between July 2004 and July 2005—the surge may indicate a sea change that many industries would do well to note....
