EPA Calls For Low-Emission Shipping Zone Around US

Law360, New York (March 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday asked an international shipping authority to create an unprecedented low-emissions zone around the entire U.S. coastline.

The agency is proposing that the International Maritime Organization create a 230-mile buffer zone in order to provide air quality benefits that could extend inland as far as Kansas.
