University Of NM Sues Toshiba Over Chip Patents

Law360, New York (March 30, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A nonprofit corporation owned by the University of Mexico has sued Toshiba Corp. for allegedly infringing a patent that improves the capability of semiconductor manufacturers to fabricate next-generation chips.

In a complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Mexico, the Science and Technology Corp. of UNM claims that Toshiba and Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. are infringing a patent for semiconductor technology developed by several UNM researchers, including the director of the school's Center for High Technology Materials.
