Senate Panel Pushes Through Patent Bill

Law360, New York (April 2, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Senate Judiciary Committee has voted to pass through the Patent Reform Act after several last-minute changes to controversial damages and post-grant review provisions, clearing the way for the full Senate to consider the legislation that has failed to make it out of Congress in recent years.

Although the amendment to the measure drew stiff opposition from bill co-sponsor Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, the Senate panel on Thursday voted 15-4 to approve the legislation aimed at taking major steps to overhaul the patent system.
