Airlines Lose Challenge Of ACCC Cartel Subpoenas

Law360, New York (April 3, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- An Australian court has rejected attempts by Singapore Airlines Pte Ltd. and Emirates Airline to contest the validity of notices by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission demanding documents related to the agency's ongoing probe into cartel activity in the air cargo industry.

The Federal Court in Melbourne has dismissed the airlines' applications to challenge the regulator's authority to issue the compulsory notices, Australia's competition watchdog announced Friday.
