Insurers Group Fights Texas Workers' Comp Bill

Law360, New York (April 16, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- A bill to overturn a Texas Supreme Court decision shielding companies from job site lawsuits is prompting stern criticism from the American Insurance Association, which claims the legislation would increase litigation and hike up construction costs.

The bill seeks to overturn the court's decision in Entergy Gulf States Inc. v. John Summers, which held that premises owners that provide workers' compensation insurance to contract workers are shielded from lawsuits arising from job site injuries.
