EU To Investigate Star Alliance, Oneworld Members

Law360, New York (April 20, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The European Commission has opened antitrust investigations into airline groups Star Alliance and oneworld to determine if cooperation between airlines on trans-Atlantic routes could run afoul of European competition laws.

One investigation targets Air Canada, Continental Airlines, Lufthansa and United Airlines, which are all members of the Star Alliance, a group of airlines cooperating on transatlantic flights, the EU said Monday.

The other investigation targets American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia, which are members of oneworld, another alliance.
