Tomato Packer Hits Steel Co. With Price-Fixing Suit

Law360, New York (April 21, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- A restaurant supplier has accused a subsidiary of U.S. Steel Corp. of mounting a price-fixing conspiracy with a packaging manufacturer to drive up the cost of tomato cans.

In a suit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, tomato packer Stanislaus Food Products Co. accused steelmaker USS-Posco Industries of engaging in a vertical price-fixing scheme with a can manufacturer, conspiring to form an unlawful trust that restrained steel and tin trade.
