UK Nanotech Co. Sued Over Quantum Dot Patents

Law360, New York (April 28, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- California nanotechnology company Nanosys Inc. has filed a patent infringement suit against U.K. rival Nanoco Technologies Ltd. over quantum dot technology.

A complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Wisconsin alleges Nanoco and its U.S. distributor, Sigma-Aldrich Corp., infringe five Nanosys patents related to the technology.

Quantum dots are nanometer-sized semiconductor nanoparticles that emit bright, near-monochromatic light under light or electrical stimulation. They're intended for use in ultra-thin displays, lighting, solar cells and biological imaging.
