DOJ Forces Alltel To Sell Some Assets

Law360, New York (September 11, 2006, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Alltel Corp. must divest itself certain assets in rural Minnesota before it can go ahead with its $1.1 billion purchase of Midwest Wireless Holdings LLC, the Department of Justice announced Thursday.

According to the DOJ, the deal as originally proposed would have led to higher prices and lower-quality service for mobile wireless telecommunications users in the 28 Minnesota counties where the two companies compete most directly.
