AIPLA Weighs In On Software Patentability In Europe

Law360, New York (May 4, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Software ought to be patentable — period — the American Intellectual Property Lawyers Association said in comments to bureaucrats contemplating reform of Europe’s patent laws.

Patent law reform has not kept up with technological advances, and innovation is suffering as a result, the AIPLA said in an open letter to the European Patent Office’s Enlarged Board of Appeals, which is ruling on software patentability.

The comments came two days before the EBA’s April 30 deadline for submissions.
