Law360, New York (October 02, 2009, 7:33 PM ET) -- The European Commission has pushed back a deadline for a merger between Fortis Bank Nederland and ABN AMRO to give the Dutch government more time to make required divestitures to resolve competition concerns in the banking sector.
The EC said Friday it extended the deadline to Oct. 19 after the Dutch government, which took control of both banks’ operations in the Netherlands last year, asked the EC for a couple more weeks to make the divestment of Fortis’ corporate banking business to a large international bank....
