Generali Ends Shareholder Pact Amid Antitrust Scrutiny

Law360, New York (February 17, 2010, 6:25 PM ET) -- Facing scrutiny from Italy's competition regulator, Assicurazioni Generali SpA has agreed to terminate a shareholder pact with Credit Agricole relating to a merger that created the Italian bank Intesa Sanpaolo SpA.

Generali announced Wednesday that it had signed a document drawn up jointly with Agricole terminating their consultation agreement on Intesa Sanpaolo. The termination will go into effect on March 19.

In January, Italy's competition regulator, the Autorita Garante della Concorrenza e del Mercato, granted a second extension — until Feb. 22 — in its investigation...
