FHFA Head Sees Higher Fannie, Freddie Fees Looming

Law360, New York (September 19, 2011, 4:00 PM ET) -- The head of the federal agency overseeing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac said Monday that it's considering increasing guarantee fees and expanding mortgage insurance coverage and securities structures to improve the mortgage giants' financial condition and share more risk with the private sector.

Speaking at American Mortgage Conference in North Carolina, Edward J. DeMarco, acting director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, said Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have steadily increased the fees that they collect from lenders when they fund a mortgage.
