Sen. To Block PBGC Director Pick Over Delphi Pensions

Law360, New York (May 11, 2010, 6:33 PM ET) -- Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, said Tuesday that he would block consideration of President Barack Obama's nominee for the director of the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. until the administration put pressure on General Motors Co. to cover its pension obligations to retirees of GM spinoff Delphi Corp.

The nominee, private equity firm partner Joshua Gotbaum, was unanimously approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee on May 5. But under federal pension laws, the full Senate Finance Committee must consider Gotbaum's nomination within 30 days,...
