AA Pilots Union Head Quits After Contract Rejected

Law360, New York (August 09, 2012, 2:59 PM ET) -- The president of the pilots union for bankrupt American Airlines Inc. announced Thursday that he was stepping down, just hours after pilots voted to reject a tentative labor contract that the union leader had supported.

In a letter to pilots posted by the Allied Pilots Association union Thursday, David Bates resigned from his position as head of the union at the request of APA’s board of directors, saying the move would be best for the union and the pilots it represented.
