Law360, New York (August 03, 2006, 12:00 AM ET) -- A federal bankruptcy judge has disallowed 53 asbestos-related property damage claims against W.R. Grace & Co. Inc. But Grace still faces a slew of claims, and a criminal case.
The 53 stigma claims asserted that Grace drove down property values by contaminating a Minneapolis neighborhood with an asbestos-tainted mineral.
The property owners didn’t contend that their homes were contaminated with asbestos. Rather, they argued the stigma of living in a neighborhood where Grace distributed the contaminated vermiculite caused the value of their real estate to drop....
