Law360, New York (June 05, 2009, 12:00 AM ET) -- With California facing a daunting $24.3 billion budget deficit, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has proposed gaining new revenue by extending offshore oil drilling through a plan that has already won support from environmental groups, but the move has drawn opposition from the state lands commission.
The California State Lands Commission passed a resolution earlier this week urging the Legislature to block the proposal, claiming it would bypass the commission’s decision in January rejecting the bid by Plains Exploration & Production Co.
