9th Circ. Won't Revive Hunters' Trophy Import Suit

Law360, San Diego (July 22, 2011, 6:10 PM ET) -- The Ninth Circuit on Friday affirmed the dismissal of a case brought by hunting nonprofit group Conservation Force contesting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s seizure of two leopard trophies that hunters attempted to import from African countries without proper export permits.

A three-judge panel found that a California district court was correct to dismiss the case alleging that the administrative forfeiture of the leopard trophies violated the Civil Asset Forfeiture Reform Act of 2000 because the two hunters initially opted to pursue an administrative path....
