Intel Scoops Up Bevy Of RealNetworks Patents For $120M

Law360, New York (January 26, 2012, 2:59 PM ET) -- Semiconductor chip maker Intel Corp. will buy roughly 190 patents and 170 patent applications, as well as software, from software company RealNetworks Inc. for $120 million, RealNetworks said on Thursday.

Seattle-based RealNetworks said that in addition to patents and patent applications, Intel would pick up its next-generation video codec software — which is meant to enhance the quality of streaming video — as part of the transaction.
