Reeling LA Court Cuts Reporting For Civil Trials

Law360, New York (May 02, 2012, 5:43 PM ET) -- The California Superior Court for the County of Los Angeles said Tuesday that effective May 15, court reporters will generally not be available in civil trials, as the state’s court system struggles with $652 million in budget cuts.

The new policy, which reverses a previous local rule that generally made court reporters available in civil trials with amounts greater than $25,000 at stake, is part of what the court said last month would be one of the most significant service reductions in its history.
