State Charges Pilot In San Francisco Bay Oil Spill

Law360, New York (December 06, 2007, 12:00 AM ET) -- A California state agency has targeted the captain of a container ship that crashed into a bridge support in the San Francisco Bay and triggered a massive oil spill in November, filing formal charges of misconduct that could lead to the revocation of the troubled pilot’s license.

A committee of the Board of Pilot Commissioners for the Bays of San Francisco, San Pablo and Suisun announced the charges against Captain John Cota on Thursday, stating that the accident was "a direct result of Captain Cota's piloting."...
