Qualcomm Considers Appeal Of $8.6M Sanction

Law360, New York (January 09, 2008, 12:00 AM ET) -- Microchip maker Qualcomm Inc. has reportedly said that it will consider appealing an $8.6 million sanction imposed on the company by a federal judge Monday.

Magistrate Judge Barbara Major of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California ordered the fine after finding that the company withheld key evidence during discovery in a patent dispute with rival Broadcom Corp. The judge also sent six of Qualcomm’s attorneys to the California bar for disciplinary action, finding them responsible for the discovery misconduct.
