A federal judge in Miami on Wednesday approved an $880 million Everglades cleanup plan, clearing the way for restoration work to begin after some 25 years of court battles.

A federal judge ruled Tuesday that Florida has not been a true steward of the Everglades in recent years, and that permitting authority under the Clean Water Act should therefore be transferred to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
