Asset manager State Street Corp. agreed Tuesday night to pay $70 million to investors and employees who said the company mischaracterized its mortgage-backed securities investments as "high quality" in late 2008, months before their value declined by $10 billion.

A federal judge has tossed the last remaining claim in a proposed Employee Retirement Income Security Act class action against State Street Corp., finding that because the named plaintiff had admitted to not reading the alleged misstatement he could not prove that he had relied on it.
