A GenOn Energy Inc. unit has agreed to pay $5 million and comply with environmental permit limits to resolve a suit claiming its Pennsylvania coal-fired plant discharged potentially toxic metals into the Conemaugh River, two green groups announced Monday.

A federal judge on Monday found GenOn Northeast Management Co. liable for discharging excessive amounts of heavy metals from a power plant into Pennsylvania's Conemaugh River, handing victory to PennEnvironment and the Sierra Club.
