A Delaware federal judge Friday invalidated 12 claims in an L-3 Communication Corp. patent for a semiconductor image sensor, ruling that a jury erred in finding the claims the company asserted against Sony Corp. were not obvious.

A Delaware federal judge on Monday entered judgment in favor of defense contractor L-3 Communications Corp. and against Sony Corp. in one piece of a dispute over an L-3 patent for semiconductor image sensors, refusing to render the patent invalid and rejecting parties' calls for final judgment.

A Delaware federal judge ruled Wednesday that an L-3 Communications Corp. patent for semiconductor image sensors that's being challenged by Sony Corp. is not invalid in light of a Xerox Corp. patent for a similar invention, with the court finding there was insufficient evidence that Xerox's innovation came first.
