A New Jersey federal judge on Monday approved a $625,000 settlement between Skinder-Strauss Associates and a class of consumers who accused the legal publisher of sending them thousands of unsolicited faxes, in a suit that survived years of complex legal debate over the Telephone Consumer Protection Act.

A federal judge in New Jersey refused to throw out a class action brought by a New York law firm against the publisher of "New Jersey Lawyers Diary and Manual" for faxing thousands of unsolicited advertisements, rejecting the publisher's argument that state law barred the case brought under the federal Telephone Consumer Protection Act.
