A New Mexico federal judge ruled Tuesday that Mid-Continent Casualty Co. must cover a $1 million award against a bankrupt brine well operator in a suit alleging the company's extraction of salt from an underground cavern damaged neighboring properties, after the Tenth Circuit reversed an earlier decision in the insurer's favor.
