A California federal judge Friday dismissed Microsoft Corp. from a patent infringement lawsuit brought by MedioStream Inc. over the company's video encoding patents, 11 days after MedioStream announced a settlement in the case.

A California federal judge said Thursday that he may stay most of MedioStream Inc.'s suit accusing Apple Inc., Dell Inc., Microsoft Corp. and others of violating two video encoding patents, saying he didn't want to waste time litigating patents that the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office has invalidated.
