A Georgia federal judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked Carbo Ceramics Inc. from using a noncompete provision in a supply contract to restrict C-E Minerals Inc.'s sales of rival fracking equipment, finding strong evidence that the agreement violated antitrust laws.

C-E Minerals Inc., a supplier of a key mineral used in chemicals for oil and natural gas extraction, filed an antitrust suit in Georgia federal court Thursday accusing customer Carbo Ceramics Inc. of using a noncompete provision in a supply contract to illegally restrict competition.
