Tribes Look To Block Consolidation Of Calif. Highway Suits
A pair of Native American tribes objected Friday to the California Department of Transportation's attempt to lump their case against a $300 million highway project in with the case of environmental groups also challenging the project, saying their concerns over highway construction are not the same as those of the conservationists.

The California Department of Transportation urged a federal judge Tuesday to hear a recent complaint brought by two Native American tribes challenging Caltrans' $300 million highway project after the judge handed the agency a win in an earlier suit by Northern California environmental groups, claiming conflicting rulings could result if the cases remain separate.
