Atty Award Reduced In $34M Chase Bank Settlement
An Illinois federal judge Wednesday trimmed $2 million from the amount awarded to the attorneys who won a $34 million settlement on behalf of Chase Bank customers who say they were contacted on their cell phones without their permission, saying the attorneys were "unprincipled" in calculating the amount they were owed.

Following objections from several class members, on Friday the counsel representing a class of customers in a suit alleging Chase Bank USA illegally called customer's cellphones without their consent cut their request for fees in a proposed $34 million settlement by $1.5 million, asking an Illinois federal judge for a total of $9.5 million.

Chase Bank USA will pay $34 million to settle a class action alleging it violated the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by placing calls to consumers' cellphones without consent, according to documents filed in Illinois federal court Tuesday.
