Doyle Estate Says It's No Mystery, Sherlock Still Copyrighted
The estate of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle on Tuesday urged an Illinois judge to rule that the character of Sherlock Holmes will remain copyright protected until 2022 and reject an author's effort to make the famous detective free for anyone to use.

Author Tells Court That Sherlock Holmes Is In Public Domain
An author who has been unable to get new Sherlock Holmes stories he edited published because Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's estate has threatened him with copyright litigation if they go to press asked an Illinois court on Monday to end the dispute, arguing that Holmes has passed into the public domain.
