BHP Billiton Fights Class Cert. In $5M Gas Royalty Feud

Leaseholders accusing Chesapeake Energy Corp. and BHP Billiton Petroleum LLC of fraudulently skimming at least $5 million off of gas royalty payments urged an Arkansas federal judge to certify six classes in the case, arguing that claims over interpretations of their form contracts with the companies are fit for a class action.

BHP Billiton Says $5M Royalty Fraud Suit Is Too Vague
BHP Billiton Petroleum urged an Arkansas federal court Monday to toss a putative class action alleging it, Chesapeake Energy Corp. and BP America Production Co. fraudulently skimmed $5 million off royalty payments to thousands of oil and gas leaseholders over 25 years, calling the suit a "scattershot" of lackluster allegations.
