The makers of several glucosamine-based supplements have agreed to pay $3.1 million to settle a proposed class action in California federal court accusing them of misleading consumers about the products' supposed joint health benefits despite myriad scientific evidence disputing those claims.

Supplement Maker Can't Shake Glucosamine False Ad Action
A California judge on Thursday denied efforts by supplement maker Botanical Laboratories Inc. to dismiss a putative class action accusing it of deceiving consumers about the effectiveness of its joint health glucosamine supplements, saying the claims are not federally preempted.
