2nd Circ. Says $5M Punitive Award For Racism Needs Cut
The Second Circuit on Wednesday said a New York federal judge did not go far enough in cutting a $24 million punitive damages award against ArcelorMittal SA in a steelworker's racial discrimination case to $5 million, saying the reduced award was still excessive.

ArcelorMittal SA attorneys asked the Second Circuit on Wednesday to erase a $6.3 million award for a black steelworker allegedly terrorized on the job over his race and unfairly surveilled by management when he complained, arguing that one supervisor's misconduct can't justify such an "extraordinary" sum.
